IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva met with young people at the Central Bank

Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva and Governor of the Central Bank Mamarizo Nurmuratov met with young people at the Central Bank. The event was moderated by Timur Ishmetov, First Deputy Adviser to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The meeting, held in the format of an open dialogue, was attended by young specialists who graduated from prestigious foreign universities and currently work in the Central Bank system, as well as the Central Bank scholarship holders who are interning in the structural divisions of the Central Bank.

In her speech, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva addressed the youth with the following words:   

"Uzbekistan has set ambitious economic goals, and I am optimistic that will achieve them. Therefore, your human capital, that is, your population, especially young people with such high potential as you have, is one of the key factors of economic growth.”

At the meeting, an exchange of views took place on the current state and prospects of the economy of Uzbekistan and the Central Asian region, existing problems and possible risks. Moreover, young people received answers to questions regarding the activities of the IMF, the fund's measures to prevent global climate change, in particular, the solutions that the organization offers to the Central Asia countries on this matter, the significance of the US dollar in the global economy and the trend towards the use of alternative currencies in international trade, ensuring price stability in developing countries under the influence of global inflation and others.

At the end, the participants noted that the event left a lasting impression on them and that the knowledge they obtained through the dialogue with the head of the IMF will be beneficial in their future endeavor.
