The Central Bank of Uzbekistan (CBU) held discussions with the IMF Governance Technical Assistance Mission focused on strengthening management practices and decision-making processes within the Bank. The meeting was attended by senior IMF representatives, including Dmitro Solokhub, Gunesh Kamber, Mario Tames, Katie Chan, and Koba Gvenetadze. The CBU was represented by Chairman Timur Ishmetov, Deputy Chairmen, and independent Board members.
Both sides exchanged insights on modern management practices, the legal foundations of central bank governance, and approaches to future-proofing the CBU’s governance arrangements. Discussions also covered the structure and functioning of the CBU Board, with a focus on practical and implementable options to strengthen its oversight and decision-making role. The IMF team also learned the CBU’s views on governance priorities, ongoing institutional reforms, and areas where further technical support would be beneficial.
The CBU highlighted its continued efforts to advance governance reforms in line with the Safeguards Assessment recommendations. Most actions within the Bank’s authority have already been completed, and work continues to reinforce a transparent, rules-based, and resilient institutional framework.
The mission will continue with bilateral meetings with Deputy Governors and relevant departments.
The CBU looks forward to continued cooperation with the IMF and to further strengthening its governance culture and institutional resilience.
