A meeting between the management of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan and representatives of the international academic community was held as part of the Monetary Policy Dialogue 2026 forum.
The meeting was attended by Timur Ishmetov, Governor of the Central Bank; Huw Pill, Chief Economist of the Bank of England; Cedric Tille, Head and Professor at the Geneva Graduate Institute; Athanasios Orphanides, Professor at MIT and Advisor to the Bank of Japan; Michael McMahon, Professor at the University of Oxford; Toshitaka Sekine, Professor at Hitotsubashi University; and David Vavra, Managing Director of OG Research.
During the meeting, the parties discussed issues related to strengthening the Central Bank’s research capacity and ensuring the effective use of scientific and analytical findings in the decision-making process.
The Governor of the Central Bank briefed the participants on the work carried out in recent years to strengthen a research-based approach to decision-making, enhance internal analytical capacity, and establish the activities of the Research Committee.
The international experts highly appreciated the Central Bank’s focus on developing research capacity and emphasized the importance of high-quality research, academic cooperation, open communication, and the training of qualified professionals for modern central banks.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on the institutional development of research activities in central banks, the use of international advisors and visiting scholar programmes, the expansion of cooperation with local universities, and the development of data infrastructure.
The parties expressed their readiness to continue dialogue on advancing research activities, strengthening the analytical foundations of monetary policy, and expanding international academic cooperation.
