The Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the V.I. Romanovskiy Institute of Mathematics signed a Memorandum of Understanding and a Cooperation Programme for 2026–2028 in Tashkent, aimed at advancing scientific and academic collaboration between the two institutions.

The partnership is intended to facilitate the broader application of modern mathematical methods and scientific approaches to macroeconomic analysis, forecasting, and monetary policy practice. The parties plan to jointly develop and improve mathematical models and methodologies for assessing inflation, monetary policy, financial stability, the banking system, and other macroeconomic processes.

Under the Cooperation Programme, an applied economic and mathematical research laboratory is expected to be established at the Central Bank. Researchers and specialists from the Institute of Mathematics will also be involved in analytical research and forecasting projects undertaken by the Central Bank.

In addition, seminars, training sessions, and short-term professional development courses will be organised for Central Bank staff engaged in modelling, forecasting, and analytical research. The planned areas of training include differential equations, stochastic analysis, dynamical systems, computational mathematics, mathematical modelling of economic processes, artificial intelligence, data science, and machine learning.

Particular attention will also be given to supporting doctoral researchers and young scholars. The cooperation framework provides for opportunities to undertake research-oriented internships at the Central Bank, align dissertation topics with priority areas in economic modelling, forecasting, and analytical research, and consider the future engagement of promising specialists in the activities of the Central Bank.

The Programme also provides for the launch of an annual Summer School on Economic and Mathematical Modelling beginning in 2027, the annual organisation of the Economists’ Mathematics Competition, the preparation of joint scientific publications, and cooperation in international grant programmes and research projects.

This partnership is expected to strengthen links between scientific research and policymaking, enhance the Central Bank’s analytical and research capacity, and support the wider integration of modern mathematical modelling and data analysis methods into economic decision-making processes.
