On 9 September 2026, on the sidelines of the international Belt and Road Summit 2026 held in Hong Kong, the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Hong Kong’s Financial Services and the Treasury Bureau (FSTB) signed a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation in the gold and other precious metals markets.
The Memorandum was signed by Abror Mirzo Olimov, Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and Christopher Hui, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of Hong Kong.
The Memorandum provides an important framework for further strengthening institutional cooperation between the parties in the precious metals market, facilitating the exchange of international experience and expertise, and exploring the opportunities offered by modern financial market infrastructure in this area.
In particular, the Memorandum envisages the exchange of experience in the development of the gold and other precious metals markets and the financial infrastructure supporting them, the study of clearing and settlement mechanisms, as well as the expansion of practical cooperation between the parties.
