On January 19 of the current year, a meeting was held at the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan with a delegation of the international payment system Visa. The meeting was dedicated to discussing priority areas for the development of financial technologies (fintech), digital payment infrastructure, and modern financial services in the country.
The Central Bank was represented by First Deputy Chairman Nodirbek Saydullayev and heads of relevant departments responsible for payment systems, fintech development, and international cooperation. The Visa delegation was represented by Sanjar Suleymanov, Regional Director for Central Asia, as well as responsible representatives overseeing processing services and cooperation with public authorities.
During the meeting, the parties discussed strategic issues such as the development of the National Strategy for Financial Technology Development for 2026–2030, the creation of a national payment “switch” system, and the introduction of unified standards for QR payments. The discussion also covered the development of Open Banking and the introduction of the “account-to-account” money transfer services.
In addition, the meeting addressed prospects for developing the fintech ecosystem in Uzbekistan and reviewed plans to position the country as one of the regional fintech hubs. In particular, it was noted that a fintech event is planned to be held in Uzbekistan this year. The event is expected to bring together representatives of central banks from various countries, policymakers, international financial institutions, venture funds, and fintech companies on a single platform.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties expressed mutual interest in continuing constructive dialogue and further developing cooperation aimed at forming a modern, secure, and sustainable digital financial services ecosystem in the Republic of Uzbekistan.
