The Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a fruitful discussion with Marko Skreb, former Governor of the Croatian National Bank and a seasoned IMF consultant on central banking.
The discussion focused on key priorities for strengthening the CBU's analytical function and building institutional research capacity over the medium term — drawing on Mr. Skreb's extensive experience in central bank reform and governance.
In particular, the strategy focuses on the role of research in the Central Bank, systematizing research processes, strengthening the research environment, enhancing the framework for research staff, and ensuring a stronger use of research outputs in decision-making.
Particular attention was given to initiatives aimed at improving the quality and consistency of research products, developing modern analytical and modelling tools, expanding cooperation with external experts and academic institutions, and integrating research findings more effectively into policy discussions.
As part of the visit, a series of lectures, presentations, and working sessions with staff of the Research Department are being conducted to further strengthen analytical capacity and promote knowledge exchange.
