In January – June 2026, cross-border remittances inflows to Uzbekistan increased by
13 percent USD 1.1 billion) compared with the same period of 2025, reaching USD 9.3 billion (All monetary values are presented in USD equivalent).
The growth was driven by sustained demand for labor and relatively high wage levels in the traditional destination countries where labor migrants are employed, as well as the overall strengthening of national currencies. In particular, the volume of remittances rose by
62 percent from the United Kingdom, by 27 percent from European Union countries, and by 19 percent from the United States. This reflects the continuation of diversification in the geography of external labor migration.
Of the total funds received, 51.7 percent (USD 4.8 billion) were carried out through direct P2P transfers to individuals’ bank cards from abroad, a channel that grew by 32 percent. Traditional international money transfer systems accounted for 46.7 percent (USD 4.3 billion), while SWIFT bank transfers accounted for 1.6 percent (USD 142 million).
During the reporting period, the volume of remittances sent from Uzbekistan abroad increased by 8 percent (USD 100 million), reaching USD 1.3 billion.
Notable activity was also observed in foreign currency exchange. The total turnover of foreign exchange operations between banks and individuals grew by 31 percent (USD 4.5 billion), reaching USD 19.1 billion. Banks purchased USD 12.3 billion in foreign currency from individuals (a 35 percent increase) and sold USD 6.8 billion to the public (a 26 percent increase).
Of these operations, 59 percent were conducted through currency exchange offices, 39 percent through remote (online) services, and the remainder through ATMs operating in 24/7 mode.
The ratio of net foreign currency supply generated in the individuals’ segment to the total exchange turnover rose from 26 percent in 2025 to 29 percent in 2026. This confirms the growing role of household operations in shaping net supply in the domestic foreign exchange market.
