The leadership of the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a meeting with a World Bank Group delegation led by Haishan Fu, Chief Statistician of the World Bank Group and Director of the Development Data Group.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the Central Bank’s role in implementing the national Statistics Development Strategy 2030, as well as key priorities for building a modern, reliable, and integrated national statistical system.
The Central Bank provided an overview of ongoing efforts to strengthen the institutional and technological foundations of its statistical activities. In particular, it was noted that in 2026, the Statistics and Balance of Payments Department was established, bringing together monetary and financial statistics, balance of payments statistics, the digitalization of statistical processes, and methodological development within a unified framework.
The Central Bank is currently developing a medium-term strategy for the advancement of its statistical system, while work to automate and digitalize statistical processes is progressing systematically.
The parties placed particular emphasis on strengthening consistency between national accounts, monetary and financial statistics, and external sector statistics. The discussions focused on the use of harmonized definitions, classifications, and metadata, the regular reconciliation of key macroeconomic indicators, and the alignment of data revision processes.
The parties also reviewed preparations for the transition to the updated System of National Accounts (SNA 2025) and the Balance of Payments and International Investment Position Manual (BPM7, 2025), as well as measures to improve inter-agency data exchange and data governance mechanisms. Particular emphasis was placed on ensuring compliance with requirements for statistical data quality and confidentiality.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on the potential use of modern digital tools and artificial intelligence technologies in the compilation, analysis, and dissemination of statistical data.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to continue working-level dialogue on implementing the national strategy, improving the quality and comparability of statistical data, adopting international standards, and strengthening digital infrastructure and professional capacity.
