The Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting with representatives of the Central Securities Depository and Nico Staes, Independent Member of the Depository’s Supervisory Board.
The discussion focused on the Depository’s ongoing transformation, its development strategy, and priorities for further strengthening Uzbekistan’s post-trade securities market infrastructure.
Nico Staes brings nearly three decades of international experience in securities services and post-trade operations. He currently serves as Head of Asset Services at Clearstream Services Prague, part of Deutsche Börse Group. As an Independent Member of the Depository’s Supervisory Board, he also contributes his professional expertise to the Depository’s ongoing development.
The discussion also covered the Depository’s current operations and organizational development, as well as the infrastructure priorities needed to support the further development of Uzbekistan’s securities market. Particular attention was given to strengthening the secondary market, expanding cooperation with international custodians, improving market access for foreign investors, and ensuring that individual infrastructure initiatives are developed as part of a coherent and interconnected ecosystem.
Nico Staes highlighted the importance of assessing proposed solutions from an international perspective and considering different operational scenarios at an early stage. He also stressed the need to further develop post-trade infrastructure to strengthen settlement reliability and continuity and support efficient asset management.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to continue cooperation and dialogue with Nico Staes on the further development of the Depository’s activities.
