The Central Bank held a press conference for media representatives on the National Strategy for the Development of Financial Technologies for 2026–2030 and an analytical report examining the potential of wholesale central bank digital currency (wCBDC). The event focused on priority areas for fintech development, the modernization of financial infrastructure, and the exploration of emerging technological solutions.
The National Fintech Strategy sets out key priorities aimed at making financial services more accessible, efficient, and secure for individuals and businesses; supporting startups from the idea stage through to market entry; developing digital financial infrastructure; enhancing the interoperability of payment systems; and expanding international cooperation. Particular emphasis is also placed on consumer protection, strengthening cybersecurity, and improving financial literacy. The Strategy sets the objective of positioning Uzbekistan as Central Asia’s fintech hub by the end of 2030.
The conference also considered the potential use of wCBDC for wholesale settlements between banks and financial institutions, based on an analytical report prepared by the Central Bank. In particular, the analysis examined the potential application of wCBDC for the simultaneous transfer of securities and corresponding payments, round-the-clock settlement, and cross-border transactions, provided that the systems of partner countries are interoperable.
