A meeting was held at the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan with a delegation headed by Taleh Kazimov, Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The meeting focused on the current state of cooperation between the central banks of the two countries and prospects for its further expansion. The parties noted the active engagement established in recent years in both bilateral and multilateral formats.
Particular attention was paid to advancing cooperation in payment systems and financial technologies to a new level. In particular, implementing cross-border fintech projects, and establishing practical cooperation between relevant institutions and experts in these areas.
The parties also discussed prospects for cooperation in the regulation of digital assets, the development of regulatory sandbox mechanisms, support for fintech startups, and the implementation of joint pilot projects. Both sides expressed their interest in sharing accumulated experience and practical approaches in these areas.
The meeting also addressed the development of the open banking and open finance ecosystem. The Azerbaijani side expressed its readiness to share its experience in developing a centralized open banking infrastructure based on unified API standards, customer consent management, and appropriate regulatory mechanisms.
In addition, the parties considered opportunities to undertake joint research projects in monetary policy, macroeconomic analysis, data governance, and other core areas of central banking. It was noted that such initiatives would help leverage the expertise of both central banks more effectively and further deepen the exchange of practical experience.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties expressed their readiness to translate the agreements reached into practical initiatives, strengthen expert-level engagement, and further develop long-term cooperation between the Central Banks of Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.
